Toward the end of every job interview, we offer candidates the opportunity to ask questions about the company, team, role, and so forth. While the questions typically vary significantly from one interview to the next, lately, the questions have consistently fallen in the realm of the interviewer’s purpose, drive, and passion.
Navigating the questions led me to ponder the broadest and most robust encompassment of the breadth of interviewee’s questions.
“What question is your leadership an answer to?”
Whoa. That’s a big one that perhaps you’ve not thought about much. Way bigger than a paycheck, moving up the ladder, or because the job sounded like a neat field. What is the question that stirs and moves you day after day?
I’ll give you a hint. It starts with “WHAT IF…?”
And as my mind and heart get running off this two-word prompt, it’s not only what drives me personally, but it’s also the core that People Matter at Work was born out of:
What if we could create a place where people…
- love to come to work
- are challenged and stretched
- have respect for their leaders
- have an appreciation for the organization
- grow and thrive
- feel a sense of pride and purpose in their role
- go home fulfilled
- are equipped to be better husbands, wives, and parents
- have children that grow wanting to go to work with a team, and for a leader at a company like their parents
What “What if” question is your leadership an answer to? A big question and one that’s worth answering even in the most lonely and challenging moments.
Cheers to becoming a great answer to a profound and inspiring question!!
